Will Running Out of Gas Disrupt the Drive Cycle?

I ran out of gas while performing a drive cycle on my car. Will I need to start the drive cycle all over again? And also how much does it cost to have a dealership fix it?

I read the steps on how to restore the drive cycle but I’m not sure if I can do it. In step 1, driving your to 50 to 55 mph for 2 to 3 mins, then let go of the gas pedal until the speedometer reach 0 mph. What does it mean to idle your car and then idle your car while on drive?

Answer:

Yes, running out of gas while attempting to set the emission monitors (complete a drive cycle) will more than likely require that you complete another drive cycle.

Normally "idling" your car would mean having the vehicle in PARK and allowing the engine to simple run; no movement of the gas pedal. "Idling on Drive" means having the vehicle in DRIVE and your foot on the brake pedal with no engine acceleration or vehicle movement.

Take extreme caution when performing drive cycles on public roadways. Perform any drive cycle procedure at your own risk. If you feel you may be unable to perform a drive cycle safely please visit your local auto service center.
