Chevy Silverado OBD II Trouble Code P1415. What needs to be replaced?
2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 4x4 V8. What needs to be replaced for P1415?
Purchased OBDII/EOBD to find out why check engine/service engine lights on. Found code P1415 (Secondary Air Injectionj system bank 1. Need to know how to pinpoint failing part. Accidently requested a component test (evap system) while learning to use my new OBDII. OBDII manual states to refer to car manual. Unable to find any reference to how to stop this test. Will this cause any big issues if I still drive my truck? Please advise, I really could use some guidance on this. Thanks! Answer:
OBDII Trouble Code P1415 for the secondary air injection system on your 2000 Chevrolet Siverado is more then likely caused by a restricted or defective AIS (air injection system) check valve. This AIR injection valve is located on the top of the engine going into the exhuast manifold (driver side - Bank 1). On a side note: OBDII P1416 is AIR Valve Bank 2.
More then likey the valve is damaged. A replacement part is fairly inexpensive.
To test the system (make sure the engine is cold; as the AIS only operates when the engine is cold and is used for Catalytic Converter heating), remove the rubber hose form the Bank 1 check valve and start the engine. You should feel good air flow out of the hose leading from the AIR pump. If you notice sufficient air flow you may want to replace the check valve; more then likey it's the fault causing your Chevy Silverado's OBD P1415 trouble code.
