Will the transmission have anything to do with the car failing the smog test? It passed all emission parts except the check engine light stays on. The car runs fine. I think the light is on because of the transmission and need to know if I can pass the smog check with the light on. Thanks.
Answer:
The environmental protection agency (EPA) considers any problem which causes the check engine light to turn on, a smog check failure. Your vehicle might be experiencing a problem which is only transmission related, however since the check engine light is ON, it will fail the smog check. It should be noted, that most often, transmission faults do increase emissions when causing incorrect shifting patterns or idle speed faults.
