My 1997 Car Failed Smog Inspection After Repair by Auto Care
I took my 1997 car in to a smog station for a smog test and it failed even after getting repairs by Auto Care. I'm wondering how I should handle the situation. Thanks. Answer:
So the question we have is, did Auto Care make any repairs towards a previous smog check failure? If so, it would only make sense to return to them and let them know your car still didn't pass. We're sure they will re-diagnose the failure.
If Auto Care did not make repairs towards getting your car to pass the smog check, and you simply had them do a tune-up or some other maintenance or repair work, then what you need to do is first make sure they are smog check repair certified and if they are, have them conduct a smog check failure diagnosis to find out exactly why your car failed. If they are not smog check certified, we highly recommend you find an auto repair shop which is. Do not allow a regular auto repair center to try and figure out why your car failed the smog check. They may not have the proper tools and/or expertise to diagnose smog check problems; not to mention, California law requires only smog certified repair stations or a vehicle's owner conduct smog check repairs.
