Colorado Jeep Grand Cherokee Year 2000 I am selling this vehicle to someone in Santa Rosa California. Before driving the vehicle into the state, I wanted to verify the make and model is likely to pass Smog check without additional maintenance required. Emissions tag says vehicle conforms to U.S. EPA Regulations application to 2000 model year new light-duty trucks at all attitudes. Vehicle currently passes Colorado Smog Checks. Thank you. Answer:
As long as your Jeep Cherokee does not have an illuminated check engine light and it's been fairly well maintained over the years, it will be able to pass the smog check inspection in California without needing any emission systems modification. Used out of state vehicles which are Federal Emissions certified, such as your Jeep Cherokee, are allowed registration in California with no additional smog components. The same does not apply to new vehicles. Any new vehicle being imported to California must be California Emissions Certified. The underhood emissions label must indicate the vehicle conforms to California emissions requirements.
