Honda Accord Needs Smog Check But Is In Arizona

I live in Arizona but need to get a California STAR station check. Is there a way to get that done in Arizona?

Answer:

Do not obtain a smog test in Arizona. It will not be valid for California vehicle registration. Fill out and sign the DMV's "Statement of Facts" form (Section G), OR complete Reg 5103, explaining your vehicle is out of state and the registration tags will be mailed to the registered owners address on file with the DMV. Someone will then need to forward the stickers or tags to you. These forms will allow you to complete the registration renewal process without a smog certificate. Please note this smog exemption is allowed only for vehicles which are temporarily located out of state. A smog inspection must be performed immediately upon returning to California.

Mail the form to:

Department of Motor Vehicles

P.O. Box 942869

Sacramento, CA 94269-0001

You may download the Statement of Facts Form (Reg 256) here, and Temporary Smog Exemption Form (Reg 5103) here.
