Chevy Venture with Replaced Engine Need Smog Test

I my 1999 Chevy Venture's engine replaced with a used engine from a parts recycler. I just got my registration renewal notice and it says I need a smog certification. Is there going to be any problem getting it to pass because of a different engine?

Answer:

If you replaced the engine with a used engine from the same year, make, and model Chevy Venture and the installation was done properly; with all the emission components connected and functioning correctly, your vehicle can undergo a smog inspection like normal. If the engine installed was that of a different vehicle model, year or make, the smog inspection must be conducted at a smog check referee station. An engine replacement is the replacement of a vehicle’s engine with the same engine size or an engine offered by the manufacturer for the same year, make and model of said vehicle. This is considered an "engine replacement" and does not require a Referee station smog inspection. An engine change is the installation of an engine in a vehicle that is different from the one originally installed. A Referee smog inspection is required for all vehicles that have had an "engine change". posted by SmogTips Support
