How To Make Sure My Hyundai Accent Passes Smog

This is my first car (Hyundai Accent) and first time having to prepare for a smog check. Are there any tips I can get to make sure my car passes? The only issue I'm worried about is that my check engine light turns on when I turn on my car but goes away after a few seconds, just wondering if this is normal or an issue I should look into. Thanks!

The check engine light turning on with the ignition in the ON position and turning OFF with the ignition in the run position is perfectly normal, and in fact you want the vehicle to operate that way. If the check engine light stay on after the engine is started (and running), then you've got a problem. A constant or repeatedly flashing check engine light indicates an engine emission problem and a vehicle will fail the smog check in that condition. posted by SmogTips Support
