I am considering purchasing a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. It has 33k miles and passed smog testing 2 years ago in Georgia. What would be involved if I buy it and it does not pass initial smog checks in California. Answer:
In the unfortunate event this vehicle does not pass the California smog check, it won't be due to it not being equipped with a particular California emission smog component requirement. California does not require USED 49-state emission vehicles to be equipped with California (50-State Emission) smog parts. A used vehicle which is only equipped with federal emission smog components can obtain registration in California if the vehicle passes the California smog check. No emission system modification is required. Should this Town and Country not pass the California smog test it'll more than likely be due to the vehicle having an emissions related problem which will need to be repaired.
