2004 Toyota Camry Air Injection System Failed on Smog Check

After my car failed the smog test I called some smog shops and have been getting different answers regarding my car's failure. Some shops said my car doesn't have an air injection system and some said I need a catalytic converter; which I got replaceed 2 years ago.

We've looked up the Motor Emissions Application Guide. The 2004 Toyota Camry, both 2.4 and 3.0 engines, were not equipped with an air injection system. We recommend visiting a smog check repair station and showing them your vehicle's failed vehicle inspection report (VIR). They will be able to diagnose the actual reason your Camry failed the smog inspection. It can't be because of a faulty air injection system since the 2004 Camry does not have one, and as far as diagnosing over-the-phone that the catalytic converter is defective, that's simply not acceptable. Before condemning the CAT, a thorough diagnosis must be conducted. The catalytic converter must be the last component which is replaced, and only after all other emission systems have been deemed to be functioning properly. posted by SmogTips Support
