1980 VW Vanagon. Vehicle failed smog inspection as gross polluter on first test. On second test, at gold shield station, it failed again but this time not as gross polluter. I am having work done to fix the issue but am I required to take it to a gold shield station for the third test or is it no longer classified as a gross polluter?
Also my veahicle did not come standard with O2 sensor or EGR but were added after the fact. Since they did not come standard on this year/model are they still required by CA emissions? Thanks for your help. Answer:
To the best of our knowledge once a vehicle is classified as a Gross Polluter it stays as a GP vehicle, regardless of whether or not it passes in the future.
You do however have a choice of where to get your VW smogged. GP vehicles can get certified at Test Only smog centers or Gold Shield smog stations.
