Chevy El Camino from Ohio. Will it pass California smog test?
I inherited my mom's 1987 Chevy El Camino from Columbus, Ohio. It has no smog parts due to the low smog check rules there. I live in Oakdale, California.
I am on disability and How can I get assistance to bring it to California smog inspection code? Don't want to sell it as to it has custom paint job and airbrush work done on it....I need some help. Answer:
There is a difference with California legal and Federal legal emission requirements. However if your Chevy El Camino is equipped with all the Federal required emission components (which is originaly equipped with) it can pass the California smog check and register with the CA DMV.
The rule is any USED vehicle which is equipped with the necessary Federal Emission Components is eligible for California registration as long as the vehicle's exhaust emissions fall within California's limits and the vehicle's emission system has not been tampered with.
