I want to retire my Volvo station wagon through the vehicle buy back program.
1989 Volvo wagon failed smog-> want to apply for CA vehicle retirement program..which is suspended until 7/1/12. What to do to maintain reg. until then?
My old Volvo failed smog in the fall. I'm only now looking into vehicle retirement programs. Most are suspended except for one in LA (VRRRM.org) I live in the Bay Area and not willing to drive to LA to scrap the car. CA- Veh Retirement program will be active July 7th , 2012. How do I keep the car registered until then? Answer:
We recommend paying the DMV registration fees in order not fall delinquent and re-apply after July. There is no guarantee CAP will accept your Volvo into the buy back program after July since technically the registration process is incomplete (due to the failed smog check), however at this point this appears to be your only option.
Currently CAP requires a vehicle be registered continuously for at least 2 years.
