2004 Nissan Xterra check engine light on for speed sensor. Trouble code P0500.
My Nissan Xterra failed a smog test because of the speed sensor trouble code P0500 popping up.
I took it in to replace the speed sensor on the transmission about 2 weeks ago. We also replaced fuel filter, distributor cap and rotors, air filter, mass air flow sensor and did an oil change.
What else do you suggest to pass and what do I do if I still can't get it to pass after getting work done and failing a second time? Answer:
Trouble code P0500 indicates your Nissan's Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not working properly. This problem will illuminate the Check Engine Light and set a trouble code within the ECU.
Since the required repair of replacing the Speed Sensor was performed you must now ensure the trouble codes have been erased and do not reappear.
The additional repairs you've conducted appear to be maintenance related and are always recommend.
We can only recommend you drive your Nissan Xterra for at least 2 weeks prior to getting a retest.
