1993 Honda Accord failed ignition timing on smog test
My Honda Accord failed smog check. I took it to a shop and was told the timing was off. Fixed that problem and went back to smog again and failed again. I am on unemployment and cannot afford to fix or even find out how to resolve this issue can you help? Answer:
The process involves first getting a diagnosis from a smog check repair smog station. They will charge you a fee (usually 1-2 hours of labor rate). Once the diagnosis is done the smog station will give you an estimate of the repairs involved.
Be weary of smog stations which will tell you right away that they are "for sure" the problem is such and such and quote you a repair price without even looking at your car.
A reputable smog station will conduct a through diagnosis and only quote a repair price after they have ensured they've conducted as thorough diagnosis as possible.
In terms of repair assistance you can apply CAP Smog Check Repair Program after July 2012. They will pay up to $500.00 to repair your Honda Accord. In the mean time you may try getting temporary tags from the DMV. They can issue one up to 90 days in certain situations involving CAP.
