1990 Mustang GT Failed Visual

Got smog check 2 times ok. Now went to get 3rd test. Smog technician did visual 1st and told me you do not have a EVAP cannister. It is needed. Where is it? I bought the car 6 yrs ago runs great no problems. Then he smog tested it and said it was great. All specs looked good. Then he took my money. Then he told me sorry you did not pass due to the visual inspection an hour ago. What? Why did you take my money then? I would of gotten one and come back. Wow! So far I met 3 people that he did the same thing to. Pointed out missing and still took the money and failed them.

We can't comment on what occurred at the smog station where your Ford Mustang was smog checked in terms of which occurred first, the emissions inspection (tailpipe test) or the visual test. California requires smog stations conduct the tailpipe test prior to the visual inspection. By the time the smog technician gets to the visual portion of the smog inspection he/she is already half way done with the entire smog inspection, and because of this they will charge for a complete smog test. California requires smog stations inspect vehicles is this specific manner (emissions, visual, functional) in order to collect an accurate sample of vehicle emission production. posted by SmogTips Support
