1980 Chevrolet truck, C30 (1 ton), 454 engine with auto trans, 2 wheel drive
I'm a resident of Ventura County, California. I bought the truck from a dealer 15 months ago and it passed smog at that time. To renew my registration I needed a smog check. My truck passed the emissions test, but failed the visual because the mechanic said someone removed the EGR valve. I tried to buy one, but no store lists an EGR for my truck, not even the GM dealer. When looking at an emissions hose routing diagram in the GM truck repair book for my truck, no EGR is shown....Help..Thanks
Answer:
This particular Chevy C30 truck may be an out-of-state vehicle not required to be equipped with an EGR valve system. There is a difference with California legal and Federal legal emission requirements. If in fact your Chevy C30 truck is a federal emissions legal truck it does not need an EGR system.
Check our Chevrolet truck's underhood emissions label for indication of whether this truck is California emissions equipped or Federal (49-State) emission legal. If the underhood emissions label is missing, visit a local Chevy dealership and ask them to match up the truck's VIN number.
