Looking to transfer vehicle registration from CA to AZ
Its that time again, my vehicle requires registration renewal in California, its a 2001 so it requires Smog. I am going to be moving permanently to Arizona prior to the due date on my registration for CA, to avoid paying double the fees I am looking to process my registration/plates/etc for Arizona through the mail, the Arizona DMV states this is possible. In order to begin the AZ state process, I need to first submit my CA smog/emissions test to AZ. My question is, knowing that in previous years the details of the smog tests where submitted electronically to the CA DMV, is it possible for me to go to ANY licensed SMOG testing center and obtain an official printed smog certificate pass/fail so that I have something to send to the Arizona DMV to begin the registration process for that state?
Answer:
Yes, although your vehicle's smog check results are sent electronically to the CA DMV, the smog station which inspects your vehicle will also give you a smog check results print out called a VIR (Vehicle Inspection Report). This document should suffice for Arizona vehicle registration requirement.
