1994 Acura Integra Failed Smog Test for High NO

My car is a Acura Integra 1994 GSR. My car failed the smog check. It had high NO(ppm) reads( max 711). My Acura produced measured 2384. What should I fix on my car?

Answer:

Your Acura is a non-EGR equipped vehicle. Once all other emissions components are inspected, and either fixed or found to be functioning properly, we may suspect a damaged CAT (Catalytic Converter)… possibly plugged up.

Vehicles without EGR valves have a tendency to develop CAT problems sooner then those which are equipped. Due to the fact there is no EGR valve to reduce NOx, this operation is performed by the CAT, and proper fuel management.

We recommend a smog check repair station find out if your Acura Integra is in proper fuel control. This will tell us a lot about whether your vehicle has an electronic problem or a mechanical fault. The diagnosis for this fault should begin with inspection of the fuel injection “feedback” system. This includes ensuring the oxygen sensor is working properly, the computer system is receiving the signals from the oxygen sensor, the computer is computing the data properly and sending the correct signals to the fuel injectors to either increase or decrease fuel delivery to the combustion chambers.
