Re: CAP vehicle retirement program; 1994 Eagle Vision ESI
I have a car that probably will fail smog, but my biennial smog check was last year, and next year, not this year. I no longer drive my car and its mostly worthless to sell it. I was wondering if its possible to qualify for the CAP vehicle retirement program if it is not my year to smog my car. So far, what I have read indicates that it must fail the required smog; what about a voluntary smog? I'd like to get rid of my car now instead of waiting a year and I don't feel right trying to sell it to anyone with its known issues. It isn't worth fixing. If you have any information about this, I'd be grateful. Answer:
Unfortunately a volunteer smog check won't count. The CAP vehicle retirement
and vehicle repair programs are only available to you during your vehicles
registration renewal process where a smog check certificate is required by
the DMV.
