Chevy Tahoe Engine Swapped into a Jeep CJ7 Exhaust Pipes
I'm doing an engine swap: 5.3 liter engine from a 2000 Chevy Tahoe swapped into a 1985 Jeep CJ7. I nned to know if I can run dual exhaust with dual catalytic converters?
I am doing an engine change in a 1985 CJ7, the engine is form a 2000 Model year Chevy Tahoe. I am swapping the engine, transmission, ECM, and wiring harness from the Tahoe. I am keeping the Jeep smog legal and will be going to the Referee. I am at a point where the Jeep needs to go to the exhaust shop. Originally the Tahoe has 2 catalytic converters, one for each bank, I will be placing two as well. There is no 3rd CAT so can I run dual exhaust? Due to space limitations it would be MUCH easier, but I don't want to spend the money twice on getting this done. Thanks for your help!!! Answer:
The smog check referee is going to require you strictly conform to the Chevy Tahoe emission design, meaning they will not allow a true "dual" exhaust system when the host engine (emission system) was not designed as one.
We recommend searching the Jeep Forums online for others who have attempted similar engine swaps.
