California eligible parts made hard to find by law. 1987 Nissan Sentra with 1.6 carbureted engine.
I keep trying to find a catalytic converter (CAT) and a carburetor for my 1987 Nissan Sentra online; only to find that California has set up a system where the California eligible parts are 3x more expensive to get than the ones in the other 49 states. How can the poor man get ahead in this state if the politicians are trying to mess with him so badly? How can I find parts for my Nissan I can afford to buy to keep this car running if CA is going to abuse me? Answer:
We admit you are right. California emissions approved components are
typically more expensive, however you should not be required to buy any smog
part your Nissan was not originally equipped with. In order words... only
purchase parts for your Nissan built specifically for your Nissan, even if
you have to find them used. You can not purchase a used CAT and install it
for use in your Nissan in California, but the carburetor you can.
