1997 Honda Accord Failed Because OBD Self Test Not Complete

My Honda Accord passed all tests except it says "This vehicle failed the MIL/Check Engine Light due to failure to successfully complete all OBD self test. I read that if my Honda's battery has been disconnected that it will take 2-3 drive cycles to reset the memory, but my battery has not been disconnected or went dead.

Do you have any idea what else could cause my car to fail? I do know my tach on my dash the tach gauge flickers back and forth and it doent work all the time my clock doesnt stay set when I turn off my car it resets it self.....please help I need this car thank you.

Answer:

The fact that your Honda Accord's clock resets every time the ignition turns off is a very important piece of information. Your Honda might have had electrical work done improperly. Your Honda's clock should at all time be wired to power; and not dependent of the car's ignition. If in fact the clock is resetting every time the ignition is turned off it is possible the same current being supplied to the clock is being supplied to the engine control unit (which also needs constant power and which stores emissions self test data). If this is the case, you'll need to have a smog check repair station investigate this fault and perform necessary repairs.
