Does a 1992 Saab 900 have an EGR Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve?

The test only center failed my Saab car because it could not find the EGR, and the car hood did not have an emissions label. All of my previous smog inspections have an N/A in the portion of the result that lists EGR valve/system. Can you tell me why this happened?

Truth is, the smog technician who conducted the last smog check is correct. Your 1992 Saab 900, assuming it has not had an engine change and is not a special construction, should be equipped with an EGR valve (according to our MOTOR Emissions Control System Application Guide). It's hard to believe that a previous owner would have removed the EGR valve and EGR system from your Saab's engine, but it does happen. You might want to have a California smog check referee inspect your Saab to ensure it is equipped with it's original engine and no modification to it have every been made. If it is found that your specific car did in fact not come equipped with an EGR system from the factory, they may issue you a passing smog check certificate without the component in question. NOTE: The only model of 1992 Saab not required to have an EGR system is the Saab 9000 Turbo vehicle. ALSO NOTE... no model of the 1993 year model Saab is equipped with an EGR valve. Perhaps your 1992 Saab is equipped with a 1993 model engine from the factory. European vehicles do at times have engine and frame build years which are a few months apart. This may be the problem in this case. Technically it will require a visit to the smog check referees office, unless this is correct and you can have a regular smog technician verify it.
