1978 AMC Jeep CJ5 Catalytic Converter Failed Smog Test for Missing EO Number

1978 AMC Jeep CJ5, The converter was replaced in 1993 and has passed every test since but now I am being told it has to be replaced as it does not have current CA numbers on it. I have receipts is this correct?

The catalytic converter was changed prior to 2009, 1993 and has passed each test. Now I am being told it needs to be replaced because it does not have CA #'s on the convertor, is this correct?

Answer:

The new STAR smog check program requiring smog check technicians take extra measures to ensure all emission components are CARB approved and possess Executive Order numbers, specifically the CAT.

If in fact your AMC Jeep's catalytic converter does not have an EO number it can not pass the California smog inspection and will need to be replaced.

The following is a PDF by C.A.R.B. explaining the new California CAT law. If you can provide the smog check station proof that the CAT was installed prior to 2009 your Jeep should pass the CAT visual portion of the smog inspection.
