2001 Volvo V70 Check Engine Light On CVVT

Hello. We took our Volvo to the Volvo dealer for the 110,000 mile servicing. Since the check engine light had come on the week before, we directed them to resolve that also. The computer code indicated it was the CVVT unit that adjusts the timing. But the mechanic said the CVVT was OK and now, after one month and $2700, the light is still on and they have no idea what the problem is. During our next registration renewal, the car will pass the emission test but the light will still be on. If the Volvo experts cannot resolve the problem, what steps do we have to follow to get the renewal?

We can only recommend you make an appointment with a State Smog Check Referee Office for a diagnosis at their station. The fault which is triggering the CVVT trouble code (P1330) must be found and repaired in order to pass the smog check. Your Volvo will not pass a smog test with the check engine light on or with any trouble codes stored within the ECU. The trouble might stem from a defective CVVT solenoid/valve or CVVT Actuator Hub. CVVT stands for Camshaft Variable Valve Timing. P1330 relates to the solenoid which controls the CVVT. It is not uncommon for sludge building up in the CVVT valve/solenoid. Your Volvo's CVVT is located on the valve cover by the exhaust cam sprocket. posted by SmogTips Support
