Emission Components for 1979 Chevy Custom Deluxe 10
Hello. I need to know which smog check components I need in order to pass the California smog check. It is a Chevy Custom Deluxe 10 with a small block 400 w/ 4 barrel carburetor. I bought it 15 years ago and would like to drive it in California.
Answer:
Two main differences with this vehicle (1979 Chevy Custom Deluxe 10 w/ GVW under 8500 lbs) and its engine design... If this Chevy was originally equipped with Federal Emission System (49-state legal) an AIR pump is not required. If it was built for California import it must be equipped with an AIR injection system. You'll need to refer to the underhood emissions label. It will state whether the Chevy is a 50-State California legal vehicle or a 49-state Federal legal vehicle.
The rest of the emission components are required on both versions: PCV, ACL, EGR, EVAP, CAT, and Spark Control.
