Volvo 740 GL Passing Smog Check in California

This 1988 Volvo 740 is 25 year old sedan. I have it out of state and it passed the emissions test about 5 years ago. I want to give it to my grand son in California. Do you think it has a chance to pass the strict smog check testing in CA? Or just give him money for a car to buy in CA? Thank you.

The 1988 Volvo 740 engine design is fairly efficient. If you've maintained it well over the years it should not have a problem passing the California emissions test.
