I have a 1977 ford F-150 351/400 engine. The flex hose (pre-heat tube) that goes to the air cleaner is not good. It has cracks in it. Where can I find a new one? And what do I do if I can't pass the smog check? I need the truck for work. The engine was rebuilt last year. It runs and drives great!
Answer:
It the part of your Ford F-150 you are referring to is the "pre-heat" tube; the flexible metal tube that leads from the top of the exhaust manifold to the bottom of the air cleaner, you should be able to find this part at a local auto parts store. They should be sold in different lenghts and diameters. Search for Pre-Heat Hose online. Worst case scenorio call the Smog Check Parts Hotline for assistance.
The State's Part Locator helps motorists locate hard-to-find emissions parts that are needed to bring their vehicles into compliance with state law. If the parts are not available, the they may be able to issue you a "Limited Parts Exemption". In most cases the needed parts are found. You may contact the State Smog Check Parts locator by calling 800–622–7733.
