I have Volvo 940 out of state and I'm headed to California. I want to know if my Volvo currently meets the standards for the California smog test.
My smog test here shows at 2519 RPM the HC measured 177ppm, CO at 0.39, CO2 at 14.5% and O2 at 1.0% Dilution is 14.87. At 791 RPM are 65 ppm HC: 0.05 CO and 15 CO2: O2 is 0.4: Dilution is 15.05.
The gas cap passed integrity checks, as well as the visual inspection items. Do I need to worry?
Answer:
You'll need to do the visual and tailpipe test in California as well, except in California the tailpipe test will also measure NOx if the county your vehicle is registered in is an "Enhanced" smog inspection area.
Currently your Volvo's 2500 RPM emission results would not pass California's smog inspection. HC and CO are too high.
