Moving 1986 Motorhome with Chevy 454 to California

This Chevy 454 came without catalytic converters. If I add catalytic converters can the smog pumps be removed or are they required regardless to pass the smog inspection?

Answer:

You will not want to reconfigure the original manufacturers' emission design. Removing smog components (or adding) will be considered an "emissions tamper" during the California smog check; and your motor home will fail the smog test. Out-of-State vehicles are allowed for California import and registration so long as their emissions systems have not been tampered with and the vehicle's emissions are below California emissions cut scores. posted by SmogTips Support
