Moving 1986 Motorhome with Chevy 454 to California

This Chevy 454 came without catalytic converters. If I add catalytic converters can the smog pumps be removed or are they required regardless to pass the smog inspection?

Answer:

You will not want to reconfigure the original manufacturers' emission design. Removing smog components (or adding) will be considered an "emissions tamper" during the California smog check; and your motor home will fail the smog test.

Out-of-State vehicles are allowed for California import and registration so long as their emissions systems have not been tampered with and the vehicle's emissions are below California emissions cut scores.
