1998 Cadillac Deville Can I Get a Smog Check Pretest?
Is it possible to check my car's emissions before I take it to get an actual smog check? It's a Cadillac Deville.
I have a 1998 Cadillac Deville that needs to be smogged. The last time I took it to a smog shop, it failed because it went over the limit on the hydrocarbons. I was told it could be the CAT, and I know that HC's are caused by heat. I just put a new CAT, and I fixed the overheating problem it had. I would like to know if I could test the emissions before I do an actual smog inspection.
Answer:
You can always visit any smog station and ask for a smog check "pretest". During a smog check pretest your Cadillac smog check results will be sent to the State however the results can not be used against your vehicle. For instance if after the smog check the results showed your Cadillac to be a gross polluter, it would not be registered as a gross polluter with the State. Also a smog check station might charge less for a smog check pretest.
HC is caused due to misfires and vacuum leaks. NO is caused due to high engine combustion temperatures.
