My 2005 Cadillac Escalade failed the smog test and they told me ignition timing is what I needed to have fix, and that I should drive my Cadillac Escalade for around 70 miles. Do you know what this is about? Why do I have to drive for 70 miles?
Answer:
Not sure whether the smog check station fixed your Cadillac's ignition timing issue or not, but assuming they did, you'll need to drive your vehicle for approximately 100 miles in order to "complete" the emissions monitors. The emission monitors are internal self tests which your Escalade performs to ensure all the emission systems are functioning. More than likely your Cadillac's "check engine" system was reset, requiring setting the emission monitors again.
