Toyota Corolla failed smog test and has very high idle.
89 Toyota Corolla DX failed a test only smog check last week. The smog technician said my Toyota's idle was very high. I had the ignition timing fixed but the idle is still too high; reading 1100 instead of 950 or 1000. Should I go to the test only place and have it to fail again or should I go in and see what the problem is?
I called smog test only location and he said, "If it fails, I need to take my sheet (that he gives me) to a smog check repair station. Answer:
Take you Toyota Corolla to a smog check repair mechanic. Let them diagnose
your Toyota's high idle problem. It's more then likely going to be an idle
air/fuel mixture adjustment which is needed, and can be corrected for a
minimal fee. If the high idle is to only problem keeping your Corolla from
passing the smog test this simple fix (assuming there is no component
damage) will get you back on the road.
