Chevy Suburban Catalytic Converter Not Matching Engine
I replaced my 2000 Chevy Suburban's catalytic converter when I lived in Florida. It passed all of the smog check in California except the visual. The smog technician said the part number doesn't match the engine. We were told this part was the correct one and now it turns out the only catalytic converter for my Chevy Suburban can be bought through a Chevy dealer, if they carry it. The catalytic converter has no problems. What do I do because I can't spend another $2,000 on this?
Answer:
If in fact your Chevy Suburban needs a new catalytic converter you'll need to replace it with an OEM CAT designed for your SUV and approved by the California Air Resources Board (ARB). It must have a stamped EO (executive order) number on it.
We recommend you contact the State Smog Check Parts Locator. The Part Locator Hotline might be able to help you find a California complaint (CARB Approved) catalytic converter for your Chevy Suburban.
You may contact the State Smog Check Parts locator by calling 1-800-622-7733.
