1979 Chevy C20 Engine Change or Engine Replacement?

I recently bought a 1979 Chevy C20 that the previous owner replaced the engine in. Originally it would have had a 250 straight six, but that was replaced with a 350 V8. Because that engine was offered with this model of truck, does it count as an engine replacement or an engine change in the smog tests eyes?

Having replaced this 1979 Chevy C20's engine from an inline 6 cylinder to a V8 is considered an "engine change" as opposed to an "engine replacement", and will require a smog check referee inspection. An engine change is the installation of an engine in a vehicle that is different from the one originally installed. An engine replacement is the replacement of a vehicle’s engine with the same engine size or an engine offered by the manufacturer for the same year, make and model of said vehicle. posted by SmogTips Support
