1979 Chevy C20 Engine Change or Engine Replacement?

I recently bought a 1979 Chevy C20 that the previous owner replaced the engine in. Originally it would have had a 250 straight six, but that was replaced with a 350 V8. Because that engine was offered with this model of truck, does it count as an engine replacement or an engine change in the smog tests eyes?

Answer:

Having replaced this 1979 Chevy C20's engine from an inline 6 cylinder to a V8 is considered an "engine change" as opposed to an "engine replacement", and will require a smog check referee inspection.

An engine change is the installation of an engine in a vehicle that is different from the one originally installed. An engine replacement is the replacement of a vehicle’s engine with the same engine size or an engine offered by the manufacturer for the same year, make and model of said vehicle.
