1978 Chevrolet C10 Half Ton federal truck has modified engine.
Hello I have inherited a the vehicle listed above. The engine has been modified by the previous owner and now it is due for a smog test. I don't know what all was done internally but I suspect it has a pretty aggressive cam and the intake manifold is not stock or CA legal. Being a federal truck does it still require CA legal parts to pass the smog test even if it Burns clean on the gas analyzer test? Answer:
Any modification done to your 1978 Chevy truck will be considered an
emissions tamper as far as the California smog check is concerned,
regardless of it burning clean or being a federal truck. The engine will
have to be rebuild to stock before it can pass the smog test.
