2006 Scion xA is Out of State But Needs Smog Check
My vehicle (2006 Scion XA) is registered in the state of CA and belongs to my step father. I moved to AZ to attend college and changed my ID to AZ (to get in state tuition). The car does not belong to me, I am using it for school until I am completed and become a CA resident again and return his vehicle back to him. Will my chances of qualifying for out-of-state exemption be good? I have been on hold with the CA DMV to ask this question for an hour and 20 minutes. Thank you!
Answer:
The registered owner of this Scion xA can apply for a smog check exemption indicating that the vehicle is in Arizona and can not be brought back for a California smog inspection. The Scion's registration tags will be mailed to where the vehicle is currently located. Download Out-of-State Smog Check Exemption forms here.
