1985 Volvo 740 with new transmision failed the smog test.
I just bough a 1985 Volvo 740 in good condition with low mileage and a new transmission. The body, seats and tires are in good condition. The head liner is bad, almost non-existant. It failed the smog test. I purchased it from a private party that assured me the vehichle would pass smog inspection. Unfortuantely, it failed. Is there anything I can do except fix the car and sue in Small Claims; or donate the car.
Car drives really good with almost new tires. Answer:
Unfortunately, as you've mentioned, the only thing you can do at this point
with your 1985 Volvo 740 is get it repaired and sue the seller, give it to
charity or return it to the seller. I'd recommend with starting by
contacting the seller and discussing the issue. Ask if they will pay for the
repairs. Advise them of the law requiring them to be responsible for the
smog check before selling the car. If they want to avoid a small claims
court hassle, they should agree to get your Volvo fixed.
