Do I Need a Smog Test in an Odd or Even Year?

Does the last number of the license plate determine when a smog check is due? In other words, a plate number ending 123 (odd number) needs a smog check in an odd numbered year. A plate number ending 6XXX120 (even number) would require a smog check in an even numbered year.

Answer:

The year in which a smog check is required depends on the year in which the vehicle is registered with the California DMV; and every two years thereafter. The number of the license plate (odd or even) does not have a bearing on when the smog test is required.
