I am in California and this truck was sold new in either Texas or Arizona. It has 18,000 miles and the smog sticker under the hood says NOT for sale in states with California emission standards. Is that ONLY for "NEW" vehicles with 7500 miles or less? Can I bring this truck to California & will it pass the smog check with no problem?
Answer:
There is a difference with California legal and Federal legal emission requirements, however if this Ford F-150 is equipped with all the Federal required emission components (which it was originally equipped with) it can pass the California smog check and register with the CA DMV; as long as its emissions are below California emission cut scores. This rule applies to USED vehicles being brought into California only. New vehicles are not eligible for this exemption. Check with the California DMV at (800) 777-0133 for the latest smog check rules and regulations.
