I wanted to know if California offers smog assistance for low income people moving from another state. I moved to California with my car from out of state, but it failed the California smog check. I was told it will take $1000.00 to get it fixed. I saw that you are not eligible for assistance if you are registering a car for the first time, but is there a program for out of state cars?
Answer:
Unfortunately there is no smog repair or retirement assistance for vehicles being brought in from out of state. The $500.00 free smog check repair program only applies to vehicles which have been registered in the State of California for at least two (2) years.
