1996 Acura Integra RS 2 door RS No exhaust modifications. All stock.
I brought my car into a TEST ONLY station as stated in my California vehicle registration renewal notification. I failed the 15mph test emission. The technician told me to get it fixed. I don't know what "it" is ... something to do with the sensor? I don't know. I paid them $40 for the inspection which didn't pass. They said if you get it fixed, we can complete the process for $11. Does that sound right? So I'm going to take it to the mechanic. What's a fair price for this repair? Answer:
Fair price for this repair... is a tough question. The average California
smog check repair costs $350.00. Your Acura Integra could have failed the
smog check for anything from defective fuel injectors to a bad catalytic
converter to a defective oxygen sensor/s. You really need to have a smog
check repair mechanic or station diagnose your Acura Integra's smog check
failure.
As far as the $11 dollars after you get your Integra fixed... That sounds
right. Basically the smog test only station is giving you're a free re-test,
and they are only asking you to pay the $8.25 CA certificate fee (which cars
that pass the smog check need to pay the state; but you pay the smog test
center and they pay California for you) and the $2.75 electronic transfer
fee which goes directly to the smog station.
