Will Dashboard Lights Being ON Cause a Failed Smog Test?

I need to know if the dashboard lights for tail light out, brake, traction control, or empty windshield washer tank will cause a failure of the smog inspection, or just emissions components? I need to get a smog test soon.

Answer:

The dash board lights being on (illuminated) will not cause a smog check failure. The only indicator (light) on the your vehicle which could cause it to fail the smog test is the Check Engine light or MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp). We highly recommend you ensure that in fact the check engine light is not illuminated, and only the tail light, ABS, and washer fluid lights are on. posted by SmogTips Support
