Need Help With Smog Repairs for my Toyota Rav4

So the question pretty much sums it up. I brought my car to a shop about a month ago because the check engine light had been on and I knew that would make me fail a smog automatically. After about a month (i started July 5) at a mechanic shop in Oceanside, CA (t is called Eddies Automotive) and $1400 later, the mechanic found out it was the Catalytic Converter that was cracked. The part itself cost $1000.

I am only 25 and don't have the money to be fixing all of this just to pass a smog test to register my car and I defenitly don't have the money to buy a new car . I already work 5 days a week as a server and someone from work told me there may be a chance I could get help paying for this. If this is not the right place to be asking than please email/call me back and let me know who and if possible. Thank you.

Answer:

If you've owed your Toyota Rav4 for at least 2 years and you need to pass the smog check so that you can renew your vehicle's registration, then you might want to look into the state's Consumer Assistance Repair Program which can pay up to $500.00 in smog check repairs, and if repairs are needed in an amount above $500.00, receive a one time smog check waiver through the smog check referee's office.

If this is vehicle which you've recently purchased and need a smog check to transfer the title to your name, unfortunately the repair assistance program will not be available to you. You will need to perform all repairs necessary to get your Toyota Rav4 to pass the smog check yourself.
