Hello. We are moving to California from Kansas soon. I'm bringing my 2000 Nissan Frontier with me. I'd like to know what modification I need to make to get the truck to pass the smog check in CA. Thanks. Answer:
You shouldn't need any emissions system upgrade/modification to pass the smog check in California, assuming your current emissions system has not been tampered with. A used vehicle which has all the Federal required emission components, can pass the California smog inspection process and be legally registered in this state. It is true that California cars have different, and in some cases more, emission components then Federal cars, but this does not mean that these cars can't be registered in California.
