Vehicle in AZ Need to File Temporary Smog Exemption 5103
I have read on your site about filing a Temporary Smog Exemption (REG 5103) because my registration is due very soon but the vehicle is in Arizona undergoing repairs. I have found the forms to download from your wepage but what is the best way to get them to the CA DMV? Is there an email address or a FAX number? And, will they send some verification the form has been received? Thank You! Answer:
The REG 5103 must be submitted to the DMV with the renewal application to determine if a vehicle is eligible for smog check exemption. A fax number or email address is not available for submission of this document. When you receive your vehicle's registration renewal form, simply complete a REG 5103, provide payment for the registration renewal. Mail the payment, renewal form, and REG 5103 to the DMV address provided on the renewal notice. The DMV will respond either with a letter denying your request for exemption (with explanation) or new registration renewal tags. If your request is denied, you'll receive the notice at the mailing address on file with the DMV. If your application is accepted, the vehicle's new tags will be mailed to the current address on record with the DMV. If this will not be helpful to you, as you may not have someone at your registration address to forward your new registration card and sticker, consider using www.NeedTags.com. They're an online registration renewal service that can mail you your registration card and sticker to where ever you choose, any address in the United States.
