My Jeep Liberty Is Out of State But Needs CA Smog Check

We need to renew the registration on our Jeep Liberty but our the car is temporarily in Texas. We paid the California registration last year but didn’t know how to get the tags without a smog test. Now registration is due again. I understand we don’t have to smog check it but how to I do it when it’s expired. Says I need a DMV clearing.

The perfect option is to get in touch with www.NeedTags.com. They can file the smog check exemption (REG 5103) for you online... you email them the form and they do the rest. You can also pay your expired registration fees through them also. You may not be able to use their system online since the DMV says there is a Clearing Inquiry on record for your Jeep Liberty (you'll get an error message from the automated system), but if you email them your REG 5103 they can help you by phone and accept your payment.
