Failed Smog Check Due To Missing Emissions Sticker
2007 Mustang Shelby GT 4.6L with cold intake installed by Shelby on new car before it gets to dealership. When purchasing the car, I noticed damage on the hood and the dealer replace the hood without installing the correct emission for the engine and cold air intake. This wasn't realized until the first emission test. Ford, Ford Racing and Shelby advises no extra stickers are available. By the way I live in California and the smog check referees say that without the sticker on the vehicle it fails. Even though they know that similar cars have the correct sticker. Is there anyway of replacing this emission sticker (EO D-598-2 or D-598-3). Thank You.
Answer:
We recommend checking with another referee office. A vehicle should not fail the smog check due to a missing emissions label. It is possible the cold air intake is not ARB approved for your Mustang; and that is the reason for the failure. A missing "underhood" emissions decal, itself, is not cause for smog check failure.
