Hello, Thinking of buying a 2016 Mustang Gt from Vroom, that is currently in Texas. The car now has 52k miles and originally sold in Michigan. It passed emissions inspection in Texas in July 2021, however the label on the car says “not for sale in states with California emissions standards “, which I’m assuming applies when new only. My understanding is I would have to get a smog check here in CA and from what I can tell there are no modifications and no issues with the car. My question is: is the car expected to pass? Thanks
Answer:
You should have no problem passing a California Emissions Inspection assuming the vehicle has not be tampered with or its emissions system modified in any way. You are correct in your information that USED vehicles may obtain registration in California even if they are only 49-State Emissions certified. Once a vehicle becomes "used" (7500 miles on odometer) it becomes eligible for import into California.
